NLarge As Art

I use NLarge during my presentations to draw attention to things on the screen. I gave a presentation on Astoria last Friday (you can download the un-branded slides here) and at the meal in the evening afterwards some of my ’friends’ kindly pointed out that the desert bore a remarkable ressemblance to my NLarge skills.

Thanks to Oliver Sturm for helping me make the point.

WPF Training Day Competition Winner

And the winner is... Andy Maggs! Congratulations, Andy, you are now the proud owner of a day’s worth of WPF Training from Patrick Long of Charteris on Wednesday 31st October 2007. Many thanks to The Next Generation User Group for donating the prize. The course is full now so if you’re not on it then you’ve missed your chance. And the winning limerick ?

There once was an MVP called Guy
Who thought he could actually fly
So he jumped off a cliff Whilst smoking a spliff
Now he walks with a limp and a sigh.

(According to my lawyers I never actually inhaled though).

Here are a few more that couldn’t be included in the competition because the author is remaining anonymous (no, it’s not me):-

There was an MVP called Guy
who figured that he might as well try
to learn vb.net
but he aint got it yet
The rest of us would much rather die

There was an MVP called Guy
who wanted to learn how to fly
he turned up on the day
but the pilot said nay
You have eaten just far too much pie

There was an MVP called Guy
Who spilled ale down the front of his tie
As he sat down he thunk
I’ve plenty left to get drunk
But not one single drop did he buy

There was an MVP called Guy
who kissed a young girl - my oh my
She layed on the floor
and offered much more
But it turns out that Guy’s rather shy

There was an MVP called Guy
who would get up each morning and fry
his doctor said cease
so he gave up his treats
now he eats toast and tries not to cry

Thanks to everyone who entered and thanks to the few who managed to write funny limericks without humiliating me.

Events In Bristol, the UK And Beyond

There is so much going on in Bristol, the UK and beyond over the next few months I thought it would be worth putting all down in print. Here’s what’s happening between now and the end of the year:-
Hope to see you at at least one of these.

Write A Limerick And Win A Day’s WPF Training

A while ago I wrote about some very inexpensive WPF training by Patrick Long that The .NET Developer Network are running on Wednesday 31st October 2008. There are still a few places left and you can get the details here. Well, the good news is that ’inexpensive’ has become ’free’ for one person as you can now win a place on the course because those party people, The Next Generation User Group, are running a competition and the prize is a place on the WPF Training Day. The competition details are here. All you have to do is write a limerick with the following first line:-
There was an MVP called Guy
No, I didn’t have a hand in setting this task - I found out about it when Dave told me after they recorded podcast 41.

So get writing and try to leave me with some dignity... (although I suspect that the winner will be the one that does the exact opposite).

4 User Groups In 4 Days: Back Home

4 days, 4 user groups, 6 presentations, 834 miles and some beer later I’m back. Thanks to everyone in Newcastle, Dundee, Edinburgh and Manchester who made me so welcome and looked after me on my travels. Thanks especially to Andy Westgarth, Craig Murphy, Barry Carr, Graham Pengelly and Emma Britton for guiding me here and there and sorting out all those details that make it work. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone and travelling through the beautiful English and Scottish countryside. I have updated the slides for the presentations that I gave so if you downloaded them at the beginning of the week you might want to try again because they’re even bigger and even better now. You can get all of my presentations from the Resources page but for convenience they are:-

DDD6 Call For Speakers Extension

The Call For Speakers for DDD6 has been extended from this Sunday 7th October 2007 to next Thursday 11th October 2007 at 6:00pm so you still have time to submit sessions. We are also looking for grok talk proposals and micropresentation proposals (micropresentations are 20 slides presentations where the slides auto-advance after 20 seconds making a total presentation time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds).

Consequently the date for session voting is now Friday 12th October 2007.
