Software Developer Conference 2006 Sessions

I’m delighted to announce that I will be speaking at the Software Developer Conference 2006 in Holland on the 15 and 16 of May. I love this conference. It’s been running for 15 years and the conference and the group (Software Developers Network) have managed to adapt to the ever changing world of developers throughout this time, starting life in the world of Clipper and supporting the language du jour throughout this time (15 years is forever in the life of development languages). I’m proud to say that I have spoken at this conference on Clipper, then CA-Visual Objects, then Delphi and more recently (in SDN terms) C# and .NET. This year I have three sessions, all on internationalization:-

  • .NET Internationalization
  • What’s New In Internationalization In Visual Studio 2005 ?
  • Deploying Internationalized Applications Using ClickOnce

For a complete list of all sessions and abstracts including these sessions go here.

If you’re trying to decide whether to attend this conference then my advice is "Go". The organizers are organized, the attendees are knowledgable, interested and interesting and the beer is always great.

Developer Developer Developer 3

The first Developer Developer Developer event was a little less than a year ago and as you may be aware generated a lot of excitement. The second event last October continued the theme and was similarly a great success. Here we are again with DDD3 which will be on Saturday 3rd June 2006. Whatever else you do don’t miss this event - DDD is becoming a significant event in our community. If you take one piece of advice from this blog it should be this: register your attendence as soon as possible - both previous events sold out quickly (as much as any free event can "sell out").

The deadline for submitting session proposals ends tonight so if you haven’t already done so you’ve probably missed out this time. I have submitted the following 5 sessions:-

  • Planning Your Internationalization Strategy

  • Automating Builds Using MSBuild

  • Windows Forms Deployment Using ClickOnce

  • .NET Internationalization

  • Creating Custom Cultures

You can find complete abstracts of these sessions together with all of the sessions proposals here. Voting opens on Tuesday 21st March so if you like these sessions then follow the link and vote with your feet (or your mouse or whatever).

Friends, Brian Long and Steve Scott have also proposed sessions and we are hoping that Steve Tudor will also put in an appearance so DDD3 may see the first event where all four members of 4 Chaps From Blighty are present at the same .NET event.

Get voting!

VBUG Bristol Presentation On 29th March

I’m delighted to announce that I will be presenting "Automating Builds Using MSBuild" at the Bristol VBUG meeting on Wednesday 29th March 2006. Here’s the abstract:-

MSBuild is the new build engine from Microsoft. It is included with the .NET Framework 2.0, Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft Vista and is designed to build software. The software can be based on .NET Framework 2.0, 1.x or no .NET Framework at all. This session describes how to create build scripts which will automate the building of your software for development and deployment purposes. It covers the basic elements of MSBuild project files, how MSBuild works and more advanced subjects such as writing your own build tasks. This session is relevant to all developers who develop using Microsoft platforms.

The Bristol meeting is a classic user group meeting with regulars and newcommers and even though it is my home town and I am obviously biased I thoroughly recommend it. Chris Myhill as ever will be chairing the meeting providing his friendly and down to earth collection of news and information about the .NET world. Come early and we can have our usual chat about tips, tricks, and anything that’s on your mind or any problems you want solved.

The doors open at 6:00pm, we chat until about 7:00pm when the presentation begins and the presentation ends at 9:00pm when everyone either goes to the bar or goes home.

The venue is The Bristol Golf Club (St. Swithins Park, Blackhorse Hill, Almondsbury, Bristol BS10 7TP). There’s a map here.
